History

Chronology of Growth
1967 - Present
1927 Scenic Airways flies first commercial air tour from Grand Canyon National Park.
1967 Scenic Airlines initiates operations with one five-seat aircraft and two employees at the North Las Vegas Airport.
1969 Scenic develops first automated air tour narration system.
1970 Scenic joins with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Park Service, and other tour operators to establish air traffic procedures for safe and environmentally-sound flights over the Grand Canyon.
1972 Scenic signs its first international marketing agreement to promote tourism to Las Vegas as the Gateway to the Grand Canyon.
1975 Scenic wins the prestigious Department of Commerce "E" Award for its promotion of foreign travel to the USA.
1979 Scenic opens a branch office in Tokyo to manage all sales and marketing activities for business generated in Japan. Scenic boards its one-millionth passenger.
1983 Scenic co-develops, and FAA certifies, the 19 seat De Havilland VistaLiner. North Las Vegas Airport.
1988 Scenic signs additional agreements to give it direct sales representation in 13 nations.
1993 Scenic opens overseas offices in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Greece, Israel, and Mexico, expanding its worldwide coverage to 19 countries.
1995 Scenic Airlines moves into South America, opening up offices in Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile and Columbia, expanding its worldwide coverage to 26 countries.
1997 Scenic builds $5 million dollar facility at the North Las Vegas Air Terminal, expanding operations from McCarran International Airport. Scenic celebrates 30th Anniversary, expands product line and has carried over 6 million passengers.
1998 Scenic Airlines, largest aerial sightseeing tour operator in Las Vegas, merges with second largest operator, Eagle Canyon Airlines. The aircraft fleet now includes 5 Fokker F-27, a 40 passenger plane as well as the now famous Twin Otter.
1999 Scenic Airlines enters the New Millennium as the largest aerial sightseeing operator in the World.
2000 Scenic Airlines is awarded a Department of Defense contract to fly from Point Mugu Naval Base, California to San Nicholas Island. Scenic also introduces the only one-day Colorado River rafting tours.
2001 Scenic is awarded two Essential Air Service (EAS) contracts for Ely, Nevada and Merced, California and provides daily scheduled service from these cities. Scenic Airlines, like many other aviation companies, suffers the impact of the 9-11 terrorists attacks.
2002 Scenic submits additional EAS bids for further expansion.
2006 Scenic discontinues scheduled service operations and renews its focus on providing Grand Canyon visitors with spectacular air and ground tour experiences.
2007 Grand Canyon Airlines purchases the Scenic Airlines brand and aircraft creating the largest Grand Canyon Airplane Tour company.
